How to activate your activism through art, joy and creativity

  • Sentralen Øvre Slottsgate 3 Oslo Norge (kart)

Balansekunst invites you to a workshop lead by artist and activist Samantha Rise. The event is free of charge and we will be serving food and drinks.

Samantha will support participants as we explore our assumptions about the nature of activism, and practice leveraging Art and Creativity as our most useful tools in building accessible, equitable work and community spaces. The second half of the workshop will support participants as they design their own joyful, imaginative interventions for the crises we face, locally and globally. The workshop will be designed with many strategies for access and engagement, though some movement, discussion and art making are encouraged.

When considering how to dismantle violent and oppressive structures, we often overlook our creativity, and our artistic capacities as a collective. If our goals for activism are to advocate, to subvert, to facilitate, and to heal, then our success will require a wide range of tactics. For teaching artist and organizer Samantha Rise, imaginative action may be our most powerful tool we have to transform our world.

Samantha Rise (they/them) is a black, gender-expansive performer, teaching artist, activist and human-amplifier in Philadelphia. Samantha’s passion for music and community building are the heart of their work: notably during their tenure as the Program Director at Girls Rock Philly, a music mentorship space for girls, women and gender-expansive youth and adults in Philly.

*The venue is wheelchair accessible.
